What is American Income Life Insurance?

American Income Life Insurance is a subsidiary of Globe Life, and they are committed to providing supplemental life insurance to labor unions. Founded in 1951, they are licensed in 49 states (excluding New York), DC, Canada, and New Zealand.

It sells insurance in New York through National Income Life Insurance, and, combined, they have paid out more than $280,000,000 in life insurance claims in 2023. So, what’s the catch? Let’s take a look at each policy and see what they offer.

What Does American Income Life Insurance Provide?

American Income Life Insurance offers three different kinds of life insurance: Whole Life Insurance, Term Life Insurance, and Final Expense Insurance. Unfortunately, the rates for each insurance can only be accessed by talking to an agent, but we have seen people online claim that they are paying upwards of $200 a month for their whole life insurance policy. For an accurate quote, you’ll need to call them or contact an agent as they have no online quoting tool.

How Good is American Income Life Insurance?

Is American Income Life legit? Yes, if you’re looking for life insurance, American Life Insurance is a legitimate provider with a history of paying out to their beneficiaries. Plus, there is a Terminal Illness Rider Benefit included in all their policies which means you can get up to 50% of your benefit when you have a life expectancy of less than a year (or two years in IL, MA, or WA), which is a great add-on that you don’t have to purchase.

However, American Income Life Insurance has been compared to a multi-level marketing scheme

After some research, we can assure you that there is no American Income Life pyramid scheme but beware. If you list any beneficiaries, they will be immediately contacted for a consultation for life insurance and pressured to purchase one of their policies. We have also seen reports of policyholders being harassed by agents to upgrade their plans.

At Final Expense Benefits, we are here to answer all your questions about Final Expense Insurance and only work with the top providers in the US. Here are just a few of the insurance providers we work with:

Our agents are available every Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST to help you find a life insurance policy that works for you when you call (866) 786-0725. You can even use our free quoting tool if an agent isn’t available.

Third-Party American Income Life Reviews

If you’re unsure about having a green burial, there are several alternative options that you can explore that are still environmentally friendly while still being cheaper than a traditional burial. Here are a few of the options you should consider:

BBB

The Better Business Bureau, or the BBB, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people find legitimate businesses. They have a rating system that goes from A+ to F and even lets you know some complaints people have filed against the company.

According to the BBB, American Life Insurance has received a rating of A+, which is the highest grade and signifies an extremely legitimate business. However, it also has a customer review score of 1.56 out of 5 with 653 customer complaints in the past three years and 300 complaints closed in the past year – an abnormally high number of complaints for a business.

A.M. Best

A.M. Best rates insurance companies based on their creditworthiness. They grade companies on a scale from A+ to F based on multiple factors including their ability to pay claims, review of financial data, and more.

As of 2023, A.M. Best has given American Income Life Insurance Company an A on their scale which indicates an “excellent” rating. Their parent company, Globe Life, had also received an A in 2023.

NAIC

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners, or NAIC, keeps track of the average number of customer complaints that an insurance company receives and rates them on a Company Complaint Index. Most companies will hit an average of 1.00 on the index, which means they receive an average number of customer complaints.

However, according to NAIC, American Income Life received 2.26 times more complaints than the national average in 2023. That’s a significant improvement from the 3.04 rating they received in 2022, but that’s still an abnormally high number of customer complaints.

JD Power

The JD Power rating uses data and artificial intelligence to understand customer behavior. They measure different insurances and rank them based on customer service and engagement. However, they only choose certain life insurances to measure customer satisfaction, and American Income Life did not meet the criteria to be included on their 2023 list.

This company opened a policy under my name and information under false pretenses. They said they were opening a policy under my partners – when his got denied they opened one under me but I did not get the great benefits we would have if it was under him. They opened it under mine Without Permission and Know Knowledge of it – they told me they were gathering my information to be a Beneficiary on His Policy. That was false. When I have confronted the company – I was put on “hold” and “call back again” for over a year. And then they told me they would not refund me the money they took from my account even though it was not authorized under me. And the manager was suppose to call me back – and still never has. I Highly Do NOT recommend this company. What they did was illegal as all get out!

I requested information from this company, which they duly provided, however they then call stalk you. I’ve received six voicemails from this company, despite telling them that I’m not interested. At what point will they stop calling? 8 voicemails? 12? What’s the magic number???

Every year, they bombard me with texts saying that the account needs to be ‘verified,’ or that the term has expired (it’s a whole life policy, not term), and then a pushy sales rep tries to upsell me. Stay away from AIL, they aren’t worth the trouble.

American Income Life Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Years of experience in the insurance industry with high ratings at both AM Best and the BBB.
  • Terminal Illness Rider is included with no additional charge.

Cons

  • It has an astonishingly high amount of customer complaints.
  • There is no way to check quotes or claim benefits online.
  • You must contact an agent over Zoom or in-person to get accurate information on a policy.
  • You may be asked to upgrade your policy, and beneficiaries will be added to a call log and asked to sign up for American Income Life.

Conclusion

While American Income Life is a legitimate company, we do not recommend using their services due to the high number of customer complaints. There are many factors to consider when you decide on a final expense insurance that works for you and your family.

That’s why, Final Expense Benefits only works with highly rated companies to match you with a company that works with you. Call (866) 786-0725 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday to Friday or use our free quoting tool to help you find what works well with you and your budget.
